We made the most of our last morning on Castaway - playing with friends in the pool and going for one last snorkel out on the reef. Two of the families we spent the most time with and shared pool toys left around 10:30am. We had a late lunch and boarded a little boat with many staff that took us just beyond the reef to where the large catamaran ferry stops briefly to exchange passengers. We stopped at a much larger island and resort just next to Castaway for the same exchange and then off to the main island (about an hour).
Our transport (Rosie's Expeditions) has been fantastic and was again, right on time to take us to the Westin Resort. We had to come in for one night because our flight to Brisbane leaves at 8:15am and we wouldn't get that from Castaway. The Westin is on Denarau Island, a large golf island resort with the big names like the Hilton. Right away the contrast from Castaway was apparent. The Westin is a huge resort with hundreds of rooms, American music playing in the lobby and the architecture is modern yet culturally aligned. We had to take a trolley to our room far away from the pool, very nice room however. the pool was a distance from our room and made of multiple level infinity pools all 1.5 meters deep except the kids level. The beach was awful, black and dirty with brown, opaque water I could not see the bottom at any point. In that moment we realized how idyllic and pristine the Castaway beach was and how lucky we were. We asked about flippers in the pool and that was an extra charge, so was using the internet, not much included. We miss you Castaway!! We loved Fiji and would definitely come back :)
After having dinner in one of the three restaurants we headed to bed for a very early 4:45am wake up call.
